Sheriff Donnie Craig is proud to introduce the S.T.O.P.P.E.D. (Sheriff Telling Our Parents and Promoting Educated Drivers) program to our community. This is a parental notification system developed by the Pickens Sheriff’s Office that is designed to reduce the number of young drivers involved in motor vehicle accidents.

S.T.O.P.P.E.D. is designed for parents of teen drivers that are under the age of 18 and it is a voluntary program.

“Your teenager may borrow the car, but as parents we hold the key to their future.”

How Does S.T.O.P.P.E.D. Work?

Parents voluntarily register any motor vehicle that will be operated by a driver under the age of 18 with the Pickens Sheriff’s Office.  An identification decal is issued and affixed to the rear window of each registered vehicle.

If the vehicle is stopped for any reason by the Pickens Sheriff’s Office, the Deputy will complete a notification card providing the time and location of stop, driver’s name and names of passengers, the reason for the stop and whether any citations were issued. Notification will then be made on the following business day by telephone and a copy of the card completed by the Deputy.
